How to make YouTube recommend foreign language content
Search in your target language
Don't search "learn Spanish." Search in Spanish. Type "recetas fáciles" (easy recipes) or "noticias de hoy" (today's news).
YouTube's algorithm responds to what you search and watch. A few searches in your target language shifts your recommendations within days.
Subscribe to native creators
Find 5-10 channels that make content in your target language about topics you care about. Cooking, fitness, tech reviews, gaming — whatever you'd watch in English.
Tip: Look for channels with 100k+ subscribers. They tend to have better audio quality and clearer speech.
Watch at least 3-4 videos in a row
YouTube needs a signal that you want this content. Watch several videos in your target language in one session. Don't switch back to English videos mid-session — that confuses the algorithm.
After 2-3 sessions like this, your homepage will start showing foreign-language content automatically.
Use a separate browser profile
If you don't want to mess up your main YouTube feed, create a new Chrome profile dedicated to language learning. Your recommendations will be 100% target language content from day one.
Change your YouTube interface language
Go to Settings → General → Language and switch to your target language. This changes menus, buttons, and auto-generated captions to your target language. Small extra immersion that adds up.
Let it run in the background
You don't always need to sit and focus. Put on a YouTube video in your target language while cooking, cleaning, or working out. Even passive exposure builds familiarity with the sounds and rhythm.
Track your immersion
Tracking Languages detects the language of every YouTube video you watch and counts the time automatically. No manual logging — just watch and it tracks.
